When you perform an account recovery procedure, Google tries to verify that the account belongs to you. Google, then, either sends a notification to your device, text on your phone number, email on the recovery mail, etc. you can also verify that the account belongs to you by visiting the g.com/verifyaccount page. By visiting this link you can approve your request for account recovery and gain back access to your Google account.
